I think our tree is terminally sick. This tree needs to collapse first in order for new one to grow in it's place.

I am not sure about a "rational" soul, but humans do have a soul. With respect to the question at the end, there is no party on Earth that can play the role of arborist with respect to humanity. So to use the analogy of humanity being like a tree, we will just have to wait for each leaf to figure out with the guidance of its soul how to live its best life together with all the other leaves.

Human’s do have rational souls. That’s why pruning trees makes sense because trees do not have rational souls.

Nature does a great job. Humans learn from it or get in the way due to inflamed egos and greed. At the moment those egos are destroying the world, but this too shall pass I hope.
