“What are the consequences of immigration for them — in terms of quality of life, peace and quiet, security, access to housing, quality of schooling, taxation?”

You ask an excellent question. France colonized 80 countries throughout its history, which makes it second only to the British colonies in the world. Quite certain that the French did not ask these questions of the peoples they colonized.

You are coming from a place of resentment, and that is not a good foundation for politics.

Why stop at 40,000 years when tracing the linage of humans in Europe? The majority of present-day humans outside Africa descend from a single migration that occurred around 70,000 to 50,000 years ago. Going even further back, it is known that homo sapiens first evolved in Africa approximately 200,000 to 300,000 years ago. Therefore, it appears that all humans are of African descent. By your logic, we should let all humans including Europeans remigrate back to Africa.

40,000 years ago was when a distinctly European culture appeared.
