I am in love with Pushkin, Tatiana, Lensky, Olga all over again. This critique releases torrents of thought and emotions. In my opinion, this is the greatest opera ever written but I never really wondered why. Here are welcome answers on the political, psychological and social plains .

I question the degree of intent ascribed to Onegin in 'ruining' a young girls life. It seems to me Onegin acted with self-awarennss and all the compassion he possessed the day he unleashed all his cold, logical, 'French' analysis of the passionate, ill-with-love being that offered herself to him.

Within the confines of the Enlightenment man he had made himself to be he played the scene out to it's logical and tragic conclusion - eternal isolation and aloneness. He had condemned himself to be with no one but himself. The murder of Lensky simply sealed the bargain.

Beautiful conflation of Pushkin, Lensky and Onegin at essay end.

As I believe that Russia is now deservedly the Ark of Europe's 'values' I wish to add that Pushkin was murdered by a Dutch homosexual - the 'adopted son' of the Dutch ambassador.

Marvellous prose! I'd like to read this in the original French. And the translation – was it done by the author?
